FRED FISKE, whose radio career in WASHINGTON spanned 64 years, died TODAY (3/2) at a hospice in COLUMBUS, OH of congestive heart failure at 96, reports the WASHINGTON POST.
FISKE started on WOL-A/WASHINGTON and announcer on the radio version of "MEET THE PRESS" on MUTUAL in 1947, stayed on the 1260 frequency when WWDC-A swapped dial positions with WOL in 1950, and finally joined AMERICAN UNIVERSITY noncommercial WAMU/WASHINGTON, where he hosted his nightly talk show from 1977 through 1991, when he moved to providing commentaries for the station until his 2011 retirement.
