Website 123jump.com reports the SONY second-quarter earnings call shows the top JAPANESE electronics firm's revenues rose 8%, as its core electronics division reported 12% growth in sales on strong demand for LCD TVs, camcorders and laptops.
Overall sales of the television category for the quarter were approximately 255 billion yen, an increase of 46% year-on-year. SONY anticipates recording an increased year-on-year profit for the Picture segment, due to the home entertainment release of successful films released in theaters during the first half of the year.
On the music recording side, SONY BMG has had a challenging quarter on two fronts. The first one is that year-to-date it has been down 15% in the USA; JULY, AUGUST, and SEPTEMBER have been down even more. The second is that there have been slippages in terms of releases that have come late.
