FCC Chairman AJIT PAI has one area of disagreement with the man who appointed him to lead the agency, President DONALD TRUMP: PAI, unlike TRUMP, doesn't consider the media the "enemy of the people."
In a letter to thirteen Senate Democrats dated MARCH 10th, PAI, who did not directly answer questions from Sens. TOM UDALL (D-NM) and MAGGIE HASSAN (D-NH) about TRUMP's position when at a Senate Commerce Committee hearing on MARCH 8th, answered a question about whether he agreed with TRUMP's assessment of the media as the enemy with "No," although he also wrote that TRUMP's infamous comment was referring to "fake news."
He added that he would not do anything to restrict or penalize free speech "even if requested by the administration" and would "continue to respect the 1st Amendment," and wrote that “a free media is vital to our democracy. That is why during my time at the commission I have consistently opposed any effort to infringe upon the freedom of the press and have fought to eliminate regulations that impede the gathering and dissemination of news."
