The TENNESSEAN reports that country music publisher, songwriter, record producer and musician BUDDY KILLEN passed away today (11/1). He was 73 and had recently been diagnosed with liver and pancreatic cancer. KILLEN was best known for his work at TREE INTERNATIONAL publishing. He joined the TREE founder JACK STAPP in 1951 and created a "publishing empire." KILLEN recruited such great songwriters as DOLLY PARTON, ROGER MILLER and many others.
After STAPP passed away in 1980, KILLEN became TREE's sole owner, later selling it to CBS in 1989, now SONY/ATV. He is survived by his wife, two daughters, a stepson, two grandsons and five sisters. A memorial service is planned at NASHVILLE's RYMAN AUDITORIUM. To read the entire article, visit www.tennessean.com.
