This year's 32nd annual ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME INDUCTION CEREMONY takes place tonight at BARCLAYS CENTER in BROOKLYN, but we won't see the HBO telecast for over three weeks, until APRIL 29th at 8p (PT), even if we will soon find out the answers to several burning questions surrounding the inductees -- PEARL JAM, TUPAC SHAKUR, ELO, YES, JOURNEY, JOAN BAEZ and NILE RODGERS.
Earlier this week, ROLLING STONE went over some of the fascinating personnel issues which surround the show -- who's in and who's out.
The most burning issue seems to be, will original lead singer STEVE PERRY join his ex-mates on-stage after not having performed with them since 1998? As of this morning, the answer seems to be in the affirmative. According to CONSEQUENCE OF SOUND (by way of TMZ), PERRY will indeed sing on at least one of the songs the band has announced it will play -- "Lights," "Separate Ways" and "Don't Stop Believin," which seems the logical choice.
TMZ also reports that RUSH's GEDDY LEE, who will induct YES, along with bandmate ALEX LIFESON, will play bass -- stepping in the shoes of the late CHRIS SQUIRE -- for the band at the show. Whether former members like JON ANDERSON, RICK WAKEMAN, BILL BRUFORD, TONY KAYE or TREVOR RABIN will join in remains to be seen.
Also, while we know LENNY KRAVITZ will take part in a tribute to PRINCE, there is lots of speculation how the ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME will handle the recent death of its very first inductee, CHUCK BERRY. ROLLING STONE wonders of ELO and company will salute the rock pioneer with a jamming finale on "Roll Over BEETHOVEN."
Other questions: Will ROY WOOD play with JEFF LYNNE in ELO? How will PEARL JAM fit five drummers on one stage? And finally, how long will PJ inductor DAVID LETTERMAN's beard be? We'll have them all answered tonight.
