The NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF BLACK OWNED BROADCASTERS has voiced its opposition to elimination of broadcast ownership subcaps in a letter to FCC Chairman AJIT PAI
NABOB's letter said that eliminating the cap of owning no more than 5 stations in either the AM or FM band in a single market "is not supported in the record, would undermine the Commission's efforts to revitalize AM radio, and would have a disproportionately negative competitive impact on African American and other minority owned AM radio stations."
The letter follows NABOB's previous opposition to any relaxation of the ownership rules except for the newspaper-broadcast cross-ownership rule. In the new letter, NABOB's JIM WINSTON extensively quotes PAI on AM revitalization and says that allowing one party to own eight FMs in a market "would give that party an enormous competitive advantage" over AM operators.
