A look at Country music sales increases for the week ending last THURSDAY (4/6) underscores how impactful a live TV awards show performance can be. Last week, NIELSEN MUSIC shared impressive percentage bumps (NET NEWS 4/4) following “THE 52ND ACADEMY OF COUNTRY MUSIC AWARDS.” This week, the raw sales figures show MIRANDA LAMBERT’s “The Weight Of These Wings” and KEITH URBAN’s “Ripcord” both reappearing inside the top 10 on the all-genre albums chart. According to NIELSEN MUSIC, LAMBERT’s album sales jumped from 2,170 copies of “The Weight Of These Wings” the week before the ACMs, to 22,708 (946% increase). LAMBERT’s double album collection was named “Album of The Year” during the ACM telecast. Meanwhile, URBAN’s “Ripcord” saw sales boost from 9,277 to 17,364 units following the ACMs (87%). URBAN performed three songs from that album during the ACM broadcast: “Wasted Time,” “The Fighter” (with CARRIE UNDERWOOD), and “Blue Ain’t Your Color.”
Digital single sales also increased among artists and songs showcased on the ACMs, with SAM HUNT’s “Body Like A Back Road” increasing 19% to rank #4 among all-genres. THOMAS RHETT’s “Craving You” debuted at #6, selling 54,000, while the aforementioned “The Fighter” increased from 22,500, to 53,260 copies. LAMBERT’s “Tin Man” and LADY ANTEBELLUM’s “You Look Good” also saw a substantial bump, with each song moving north of 40,000 in sales following the ACMs.
