Bob Wootton, Johnny Cash Lead Guitar Player, Dead At 75

ROBERT CLIFTON "BOB" WOOTTON, who served as JOHNNY CASH's lead guitarist in the legendary TENNESSEE THREE from 1968 until 1997, passed away on SUNDAY, APRIL 9th in GALLATIN, TN. He was 75. WOOTTON joined the TENNESSEE THREE following the death of CASH's original lead guitar player, LUTHER PERKINS, after whom WOOTTON had modeled his own guitar playing. He played with CASH on stage as well as in the studio, and he also appeared on ABC-TV's "The JOHNNY CASH Show" weekly between 1969 and 1971. WOOTTON wed JUNE CARTER CASH's sister, ANITA, in 1974, but the marriage ended in divorce.
WOOTTON is survived by wife VICKY and daughters SCARLETT and MONTANA. A celebration of life was held TODAY (4/13) at CORNERSTONE CHURCH in MADISON, TN; he has been buried at HENDERSONVILLE MEMORIAL GARDENS. WOOTTON's full obituary may be viewed here.
