ESPN anchor SCOTT VAN PELT came up big when the radio station at his alma mater needed help, agreeing in a tweet from the golf course to donate enough cash to close out the UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND's student station WMUC-F/COLLEGE PARK, MD's fundraising drive for its sports department.
Student broadcaster LIAM BEATUS tweeted a donation request at VAN PELT as the fundraising effort neared its end, and VAN PELT's response was to ask what WMUC needed to be fully funded. Told that the fundraiser was $1,255 short of its original goal, VAN PELT responded, "I got you. Playing golf now. Will cover this later. You're funded."
VAN PELT's generosity went viral and has gained WMUC, and the incident, considerable national press.
@notliambeatus @WMUCSports what do you need to be fully funded?
