JACK WHITE's THIRD MAN BOOKS will release "The BLUE SERIES: The Story Behind The Color, Volume One," a 282-page book detailing the story behind the BLUE SERIES 7" singles recorded in THE BLUE ROOM at THIRD MAN RECORDS.
The special edition of the book, which is signed by the book's editor (and THIRD MAN executive) BEN BLACKWELL, and includes a 7" (pressed on exclusive blue vinyl at THIRD MAN PRESSING in DETROIT) with unreleased BLUES SESSIONS tracks from FIRST AID KIT and BUTTHOLE SURFERS' GIBBY HAYNES, will be available on RECORD STORE DAY (SATURDAY, APRIL 22nd) at THIRD MAN RECORDS storefronts and select record stores. The special edition has been limited to 500 copies.
The standard edition of the book will be in bookstores on JUNE 6th, and will include the 7"on black vinyl. Both editions will include a foreword by ROLLING STONE's DAVID FRICKE and a 10-song BLUE SERIES sampler curated by the book's editor BEN BLACKWELL.
The BLUE SERIES single started in tandem with THIRD MAN RECORDS, JACK WHITE's NASHVILLE-based record label founded in 2009. Built on the simple premise of 7" 45rpm singles all recorded in the same studio, with the same producer (WHITE) with photos taken in the same locale (The BLUE ROOM) and manufactured at the same pressing plant (UNITED RECORD PRESSING, a stone's throw from TMR's offices) the resultant 40 singles run the gamut of artists and styles, including BECK, TOM JONES, STEPHEN COLBERT, INSANE CLOWN POSSE and others. The BLUE SERIES encapsulates what THIRD MAN and JACK WHITE have focused on and championed for the past seven years.
The book includes an extensive interview with WHITE covering the span of the series, the musicians involved, recording techniques, and the direct influence of the series over his own career, as well as exclusive interviews from BLUE SERIES artists.
