Programming consultant and music scheduling software developer STEVE WARREN recently celebrated his 50-year anniversary as a PD, and then consultant, for radio.
“Damn! It was a half-century ago when I was first given the title of PD in JANUARY ’67," WARREN recalled."I was 18 and already had three fabulous years as DJ on the only Rock n’ Roll station in my town. Later, I had PD stripes in eight of the next 10 stations I worked for as a salaried employee. My consulting career began in ’83, and I’ve always considered what I do as ‘executive’ program direction, meaning no air-shift, no production, and no late calls informing me the overnight guy didn’t show up.”
WARREN was at the forefront of the Hot Country format evolution in the ‘80s and ‘90s, advising clients in more than 50 markets. During that time, he also developed the first (and only) music scheduler for the MAC, which led directly to MUSIC 1, released in 1994 as the first WINDOWS-native scheduling software. The M1 package now includes software for traffic-and-billing, TRAFFECTA.
WARREN is author of "The Programming Operations Manual," a widely-read book about the how-to of music radio programming.
“Software is today my biggest business by far," WARREN added. "But now, I am pleased to announce my latest programming venture, a nationally syndicated format: The NEW COUNTRY TRADITION.” The format’s business manager is THE TALENT FARM's STEVE WALL, and it is being distributed through the advanced technology of SYNCHRONICITY.CO.
