The MEMPHIS COMMERCIAL APPEAL is reporting that former INTERNATIONAL RADIO NETWORK operator LARRY BATES, his two sons CHUCK and ROBERT, and daughter-in-law KINSEY BATES have been convicted in a case alleging mail and wire fraud and conspiracy totaling $21 million in funds taken from over 360 people.
$4 million of the money, which prosecutors said BATES raised from a series of conferences across the country predicting economic collapse (which was termed “Mystery Babylon") and selling gold and silver coins, was used to create INTERNATIONAL RADIO NETWORK; the prosecutors say the BATES took the money and never delivered the full orders. LARRY BATES is a former TENNESSEE state legislator and CEO of FIRST AMERICAN MONETARY CONSULTANTS.
Funds raised in the scam were used for the radio network, commodities trading, and a 10,000 square foot house in MIDDLETON, TN. LARRY BATES was convicted of all 46 counts against him, with CHUCK BATES guilty of 19 (18 of mail and wire fraud, one conspiracy), ROBERT BATES of 9 (five of mail fraud, three of wire fraud, one conspiracy), and KINSEY on three (two wire fraud, one conspiracy). The BATES face 20 years in prison on each count. Sentencing is scheduled for AUGUST 3rd.
