WVVL (Weevil 101)/Elba, AL Owner Doug Holderfield Dead At 80

WILLIAM "DOUG" HOLDERFIELD, whose ELBA RADIO COMPANY owns Classic Country WVVL (WEEVIL 101)/ELBA, AL and formerly owned Southern Gospel WELB-A/ELBA, died SATURDAY (5/27) at 80 in ELBA, reports the DOTHAN EAGLE and ENTERPRISE LEDGER.

HOLDERFIELD and a partner bought WELB in 1969 and put WVVL (then WZTZ) on the air in 1986.  He also served as public address announcer for ELBA HIGH SCHOOL football.
