Classical BBC RADIO 3 will drop four shows from its schedule early next year but will not cut back on airing full concerts, the network's Programme Controller ROGER WRIGHT told THE GUARDIAN for today's editions (11/6).
WRIGHT, denying rumors that RADIO 3 would be relying more on excerpts from concerts, called the reports "rubbish... we're doing full concerts. We are not going to do excerpts, we're going to do concerts," adding that the network will have more specially recorded music and "a certain amount of jazz." The shows to get the ax include "STAGE AND SCREEN," "VOICES," "BRIAN KAY'S LIGHT PROGRAMME," and "JAZZ LEGENDS," which will all give way for more classical music. Concert performances will air earlier, starting at 7p rather than 7:30p, except for live performances during the BBC PROMS in the SUMMER.
