APPLE MUSIC now has 27 million paid subscribers, according to an announcement as part of the company's WORLDWIDE DEVELOPERS CONFERENCE in SAN JOSE, CA, today (6/5). That's a little over half of competitor SPOTIFY's 50 million paid subscribers, which is revealed in MARCH.
APPLE MUSIC users will soon be able to see what their friends are listening to, depending on if their profiles are public or private. Developers can also build apps with the full APPLE MUSIC service — something companies that NIKE and SHAZAM have already taken advantage of.
The two-year-old service got a facelift last year which included displays of song lyrics, chart-toppers, live radio, concerts, recently played songs and curated playlists.
