Condolences to family and friends of former DETROIT sportscaster and HALL COMMUNICATIONS Adult Standards WONN-A-W296CS/LAKELAND, FL morning host JIM HENDRICK, who died FRIDAY (6/16) at 82 in LAKELAND. HENDRICK had been off the air at WONN since JULY 2016 on a medical leave of absence after a fall in the station parking lot.
HENDRICK was a singer in LAS VEGAS before returning to his native DETROIT area, where he became Sports Director at WBRB-A-WERB/MOUNT CLEMENS-DETROIT, later calling DETROIT PISTONS games on WKBD-TV and anchoring sports on WJBK-TV.
For many years, HENDRICK also called hydroplane racing on ESPN, CBS, and ABC and from 1972 through 2005 called the races for his own network of radio affiliates. He hosted the WONN morning show since 2005.
