LANE COMMUNITY COLLEGE noncommercial News-Talk/Triple A KLCC/EUGENE, OR is facing having to make up the difference after the college decided to cancel its annual $200,000 donation to the station budget, reports the EUGENE REGISTER-GUARD.
The college's donation represents 10% of the station's $2 million yearly budget, but GM JOHN STARK told the paper that the station can cover the difference for the coming fiscal year with money from its $800,000 in reserves. The school, in a financial bind of its own, decided to cut the radio donation from its budget for the fiscal year that starts JULY 1st; on the KLCC website, the cut is characterized as "a one-year suspension and not a permanent cut."
The station has hired a Dir./Philanthropy to seek donations and grants, and the station is also soliciting more listener donations in light of the loss of the school's donation.
