The NPR Story Lab has announced the two audio projects which will receive editorial support and $10,000 in funding to produce pilot podcast episodes and create broadcast segments for NPR newsmagazines.
Chosen out of ten participants in MARCH's Story Lab Workshop were ALASKA PUBLIC MEDIA's "MIDNIGHT OIL," looking at the Trans-ALASKA Pipeline and its effects on the state since its activation in JUNE 1977, produced by ELIZABETH HARBALL, RASHAH MCCHESNEY, and RACHEL WALDHOLZ of regional news collaborative organization ALASKA'S ENERGY DESK, and "INTER(NATION)AL," produced by MINNEAPOLIS- and BROOKLYN-based independent team ALLISON HERRERA, JOSEPHINE HOLTZMAN, and ISAAC KESTENBAUM and telling American history through the perspective of treaties between the U.S. government and Native Americans.
“We're thrilled to be supporting talented storytellers and journalists in creating original work that will benefit local communities and also contribute important stories to our national news programs,” said NPR VP for Programming and Audience Development ANYA GRUNDMANN.
“MIDNIGHT OIL" will debut its first podcast episode on JUNE 20th. "INTER(NATION)AL" is said by NPR to be in the "early stages of development."
