BRUCE BOND has exited his SATURDAY show at PATRICK H. SICKAFUS Active Rock WTPA/HARRISBURG after being told not to criticize President TRUMP on the air by his GM.
The HARRISBURG PATRIOT-NEWS/PENNLIVE.COM reports that BOND, the controversial former crosstown WNNK (WINK 104) host who was convicted in a check forgery case in 2008 before making a comeback in the market in 2014, posted an e-mail memo from VP/GM TIM MICHAELS on FACEBOOK that instructed BOND that "It is not permissible on WTPA airwaves to talk disrespectfully of the President" and added that MICHAELS has "received backlash in the form of e-mails, phones (sic) calls and such. I have listeners threatening a boycotts (sic) of sponsors and social media campaigns against the station, I have spoken with several parties personally this week that are very angered and have discontinued listening to WTPA and are encouraging their friends to do the same. This cannot continue to happen. I have asked previously to cease political discussion. If this cannot be achieved we will have no choice but to discontinue the show."
BOND posted, "I really hated to quit my very fun & honest show but under these rules, I could not continue being honest to my fans & listeners ... I'm sorry that there is this really ugly political environment in this country with the current President. Unfortunately, CENTRAL PA can't handle someone as liberal & brutally honest as I can be quite often. Thanks for understanding my side of this story."
MICHAELS told the paper, "I'll make this clear and concise: BRUCE resigned, we have accepted his resignation, and we wish him well. That's basically my comment on BRUCE."
