Fresh off acquiring IMAGEM (NET NEWS 6/2), CONCORD BICYCLE MUSIC is back on its buying spree, securing a bundle of recorded music rights as part of WARNER MUSIC GROUP's post-PARLOPHONE divestments, according to MUSIC BUSINESS WORLDWIDE.
The recordings include the ATLANTIC RECORDS catalog of GRAMMY-winning singer/songwriter JEWEL's first five studio albums, including her debut 1995's "Pieces Of You," which sold 12 million in the U.S.
Other catalogs in the seven-figure deal include albums by BRAZILIAN legend SERGIO MENDES.
After merging with THE BICCYCLE MUSIC COMPANY and raising $100m in 2015, CONCORD has acquired FEARLESS RECORDS, WIND-UP RECORDS and signed a joint venture with RAZOR & TIE, along with previous acquisitions HIGHTONE RECORDS and BANDIT RECORDS.
WARNER MUSIC GROUP agreed to hand over $200m+ in recorded music assets to the independent community back in 2013 as a condition of its buyout of PARLOPHONE LABEL GROUP from UNIVERSAL MUSIC GROUP.
Other divestments were made to DOMINO RECORDS (THE BUZZCOCKS, HOT CHIP), BECAUSE MUSIC (LONDON RECORDS) and EPITAPH (TOM WAITS).
