TEXAS CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY station KTCU/FORT WORTH, TX's "Rock Menagerie" celebrates 25 years on-air this SUNDAY (July 16th), according to an article in DALLAS-FORT WORTH-STAR TELEGRAM.
The rock 'n' roll anthology show is hosted by DALE GLEITZ and airs 7-9p (CT) SUNDAYS.
Each week, GLEITZ picks a theme — recent ones have included the music of 1967, “songs about the whole family” for MOTHER'S DAY, and one about flowers, trees and birds to celebrate the beginning of MAY, with deep album tracks or artists that rarely get airplay. Other highlights include a DR. DEMENTO tribute show, and a 2005 SUPER BOWL broadcast, where he played PHILADELPHIA-area songs when the EAGLES had the ball, and BOSTON bands when the NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS were on offense. At halftime, GLEITZ spotlighted JACKSONVILLE music for where the game was taking place.
GLEITZ claims he rarely repeats a song, having played 17,546 of them on the show during more than 1,000 theme-based playlists.
Says GLEITZ, “The show began as a temporary substitution on the summer schedule of FM 88.7 in JUNE 1992... A quarter of a century later, it’s still on KTCU-FM.”
Stream the show at ktcu.tcu.edu or via the TUNEIN app.
