There's been plenty of chatter in our industry about "smart speakers" like AMAZON's ECHO and DOT and GOOGLE HOME. The recent, "Smart Audio Report from NPR and EDISON RESEARCH,” shows 70% of device owners saying they listen to more audio at home since buying the speakers, 65% saying that "they would not want to go back to their lives before getting one of these devices," and 42% calling their devices “essential” to their everyday lives.
If radio was paying attention before, now comes news that AMAZON is working on upgrading its ECHO speaker to improve audio quality.
BUSINESS INSIDER reports, "The new ECHO will allegedly be shorter and slimmer than the original, almost as if it were three or four ECHO DOTS stacked on top of each other. AMAZON is also working on improved materials and overall design for the device, which will reportedly have more rounded edges and use a 'cloth-like' covering, as opposed to the plastic of the current model. More than anything else, however, is the SEATTLE company's commitment to better audio, seemingly to take away some of the hype from APPLE's recently announced HOMEPOD."
