On July 31, 2017, PITTSBURGH COMMUNITY BROADCASTING CORPORATION Triple A WYEP/PITTSBURGH will introduce a number of programming changes, including the debut of "The Evening Mix with CINDY HOWES," which will take its place in WYEP’s broadcast lineup, airing from 6-10p MONDAY through THURSDAY.
HOWES, who has hosted "The Morning Mix" for 10 years, will launch this new program and include special features for on-air and online distribution. In addition to hosting The Evening Mix, HOWES assumes new responsibilities as Digital Content Manager, working with staff and volunteers to develop and manage the station’s new and existing digital content.
“Adding The Evening Mix allows us to serve our audience better, offering our signature custom-curated programming for a full 16 hours every weekday, throughout peak listening times,” said WYEPDir./Content and Programming MIKE SAUTER. “Having CINDY take the lead on digital content management allows us to ensure growth and expansion of our digital content. With people increasingly electing to listen on non-broadcast platforms, being able to offer more content and choice is important.”
“I am very excited about helping to shape WYEP’s digital content and enhance what WYEP is already doing so well,” said HOWES. “I look forward to working with our staff and volunteer hosts to curate and create a digital experience of music discovery for our audiences to enjoy.”
“It is vitally important in a digital environment for WYEP to dedicate resources to making new content and showcasing our existing content in better ways,” said WYEP GM ABBY GOLDSTEIN. “We do great work and our digital audience is growing. We want to be able to serve our audience in that space with content they can enjoy regardless of what device or platform they prefer.”
JOEY SPEHAR will continue as the sole host of The Morning Mix, and added he looks forward to, “connecting with PITTSBURGH in a new way, with some new and exciting content, keeping listeners informed about local music events and as always creating opportunities for listeners to engage with us in social media as well as online.”
WORLD CAFÉ will move to a new time, MONDAY through THURSDAY at 10p. THE BLOCK PARTY will continue on FRIDAY evenings with host DAVE HUTCHINSON at 8p, following GRAND GROOVE RADIO hosted by DJ SELECTA. Longtime volunteer host SEAN FOGARTY will take the helm for the SATURDAY Mix. Volunteer hosts will also begin generating unique digital content that will be available on wyep.org.
