The CANADIAN RADIO-TELEVISION AND TELECOMMUNICATIONS COMMISSION (CRTC) has new leadership, with former TELESAT CANADA Executive Director of Government and Regulatory Affairs IAN SCOTT appointed Chairperson, and Department of Innovation, Science and Economic Development Legal Counsel Dr. CAROLINE SIMARD named Vice-Chairperson (Broadcasting).
Both will serve five year terms, with SCOTT, a former CRTC and Federal Competition Bureau staffer and industry lobbyist with stints at TELUS, SPRINT CANADA parent CALL-NET ENTERPRISES, and the CANADIAN CABLE TELEVISION ASSOCIATION, starting on SEPTEMBER 5th and SIMARD on SEPTEMBER 11th. SCOTT replaces JEAN-PIERRE BLAIS, who left at the expiration of his term last month, and Interim Chair JUDITH LAROCQUE, who will remain in place until SCOTT starts his term.
In addition, CRTC Legal Sector Executive Director and Senior General Counsel CHRISTIANNE M. LAIZNER will serve as Interim Vice-Chairperson (Telecommunications), for a term of up to one year.
