Top 40 BBC RADIO 1 afternoon host EDITH BOWMAN issued an apology TUESDAY for reading an email on the air that included a racial slur.
BOWMAN, discussing slang, read a listener's email saying, "When the weather is a little bit cold, we say that it's a bit PEARL HARBOR, meaning that there's a nasty Nip in the air." A half hour later, BOWAMN read a formal apology on the air. The BBC said that it received dozens of complaints and issued a statement that said BOWMAN had "read this particular term out in error. No offence was intended, and EDITH apologised on air for any that may have been caused."
BBC RADIO 1 is heard in the U.S. on SIRIUS SATELLITE RADIO.
