LINKIN PARK singer CHESTER BENNINGTON has committed suicide, according to multiple media reports. Law enforcement sources told TMZ that the singer hung himself at a private residence in PALOS VERDES ESTATES in L.A. COUNTY; his body was discovered THURSDAY morning.
BENNINGTON, who struggled with drugs and alcohol for years, has previously admitted to contemplating suicide because he was abused as a child by an older male.
BENNINGTON was married with six children from two wives.
He committed suicide on the day his good friend CHRIS CORNELL, who hung himself in MAY, would have been 53.
BENNINGTON wrote an open letter to CORNELL after his death, and performed at his memorial service in LOS ANGELES.
LINKIN PARK's most recent album, "One More Light," debuted at #1 on the BILLBOARD 200 when it was released in MAY.
Tributes came from throughout the music industry, including CBS RADIO SVP Programming/KROQ LOS ANGELES PD KEVIN WEATHERLY, who wrote, “On behalf of everyone at KROQ, I would like to extend our deepest condolences and prayers to CHESTER BENNINGTON’s family, friends and LINKIN PARK bandmates. KROQ, CHESTER and LINKIN PARK have been together since day 1, and our long history extends beyond the music. CHESTER and LINKIN PARK headlined many of our shows over the years, entertaining audiences and pushing the boundaries of music along the way. We are without words to describe how terribly saddened we are today. RIP friend, KROQ will miss you.”
