The cunning stunting and countdown sound effects finally came to an end in CINCINNATI, with the format wheel apparently landing on a blend of Alternative and Rock.
ENTERCOM's 94.9 is now on the air calling itself "THE SOUND" and so far features the music of GREEN DAY, U2, PANIC! AT THE DISCO and NINE INCH NAILS.
ALL ACCESS hears JACOBS MEDIA and former CLEAR CHANNEL/SAN JOSE Regional OM/Alternative KCNL PD JOHN ALLERS are overseeing the launch of the station, which includes 9,490 consecutive songs in no particular order. You can listen online at www.949thesound.com.
On-air applicants for THE SOUND can send an mp3 and resume to thesound949@yahoo.com.
Meanwhile, as previously hinted on ALL ACCESS (NET NEWS 11/1), the old Country WYGY's STAR 94.9 format was simultaneously relaunched at noon today on 97.3 as Alternative WAQZ flipped to "THE COUNTRY WOLF." The WYGY calls are expected to follow the station to the 97.3 frequency, pending FCC approval.
The new station is expected to have a more raw, edgy sound to balance the family-friendly Country sound on sister station WUBE. WOLF PD MARTY THOMPSON said, "This is going to be a howlin' good time." The new lineup looks like this:
5:30-10a - KEN & KITTY
10a-2p - KATHY O'CONNOR
2-7p - JESSE TACK
7p-12a - KEN & KITTY PRIMETIME
