WCBS-A/New York Celebrates 50 Years In All-News Format With Live Event Featuring Tony Bennett

CBS RADIO News WCBS-A (NEWSRADIO 880AM)/NEW YORK celebrated its 50th anniversary in the all-News format with a live event, “CELEBRATING 50 YEARS OF NEWS: A NIGHT OF NEW YORK STORIES,” TUESDAY night (9/8) at the PLAYSTATION THEATER in TIMES SQUARE, with a special interview and performance by TONY BENNETT capping the evening, as previewed by ALL ACCESS (NET NEWS 6/22).
Paul Murnane, Brad Heller, Bobby Valentine The event, hosted by WAYNE CABOT and ALEX SILVERMAN, included stories from WCBS personalities and guests including former METS manager BOBBY VALENTINE, who told a tale of how he was rescued from a holding cell in STAMFORD, CT by the Mayor after a 1981 incident in which he tried to get prostitutes to go away from his restaurant and instead ended up thrown in a cell by police; the threat that VALENTINE would talk to WCBS' FRAN SCHNEIDAU and tell her all about the prostitutes on STAMFORD's streets led the mayor to personally release him.
