For a historical venue like the HOLLYWOOD BOWL, apparently history counts for a great deal.
According to a report in VARIETY, the board of the venerable landmark turned down a $100 million offer from rival promoter AEG before awarding a 10-year contract to LIVE NATION and the team of ANDREW HEWITT and BILL SILVA (NET NEWS 8/7).
Rival bidders also included IRVING AZOFF and TIM LEIWEKE's OAK VIEW GROUP.
The likely reason for the choice? Sources claim, for a traditionally conservative venue, which does not have a young board of directors, familiarity goes a long way.
HEWITT and SILVA have booked concerts at the BOWL, which first opened for business in 1922, since 1991. The 18,000-seater is owned by LOS ANGELES COUNTY and operated by the L.A. PHILHARMONIC. Non-PHIL offerings now average between 15-20 a year, with upcoming shows by NEW ORDER, TOM PETTY, IMAGINE DRAGONS, DEPECHE MODE and CHANCE THE RAPPER.
HEWITT and SILVA first joined forces with LIVE NATION in 2011.
LIVE NATION, AEG and AZOFF-MSG ENTERTAINMENT have been waging a fierce war in LOS ANGELES, NEW YORK and LONDON for bookings at STAPLES, the FORUM, MADISON SQUARE GARDEN and O2 ARENA
