SUMMITMEDIA Urban AC WJMZ (107.3 JAMZ)/GREENVILLE staged a "STOP the JAMZ" last night (8/15) at 8p (ET), for a community discussion about the protests in CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA. Midday host TONE HOLLYWOOD joined News and Community Affairs Dir. RHONDA RAWLINGS to ask listeners to call in and discuss the topics they want to discuss, ask questions, and voice their opinions. The hosts were joined by several members of the Upstate community, including:
- Attorney DAVIDA MATHIS, Chairman of the RAINBOW PUSH Coalition of GREENVILLE
- STACEY MILLS, Pastor of MOUNTAIN VIEW BAPTIST CHURCH in GREENVILLE
- MICHAEL BROWN, SPARTANBURG County Councilman and President of the SPARTANBURG branch of the NAACP
107.3 JAMZ has held similar discussions in the past, covering topics like police-involved shootings, riots and violence, and racism in AMERICA. Tuesday's "STOP the JAMZ" will be focused on the weekend's news coming out of CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA, but will also cover the broader topic of removal of confederate statues and monuments.
"107.3 JAMZ is the voice of the African-American community in the Upstate," WJMZ OM MIKE KLEIN said. "We are proud to give our platform to offer guidance in this very tough time in AMERICA."
