A fire that burned inside the broadcasting antenna atop TORONTO's CN Tower has been extinguished this morning. The antenna atop the structure is responsible for broadcasting more than 30 TV and FM signals across SOUTHERN ONTARIO, CANADA.
The CBC reports, "Some 30 firefighters were on the scene after the fire started around 4:15a (ET). An electrician noticed a signal on the alarm panel that monitors the antenna, TORONTO Fire Platoon Chief KEVIN SHAW told CBC TORONTO."
"It looks like a tar substance that's burning," SHAW told the CBC.
TORONTO Fire District Chief STEPHAN POWELL added, "The mast itself is steel. It's above the sky pod. There's numerous pieces of conduit that feed the various antenna feeds that are within there and one of these have started to maybe smoulder or burn."
