The NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF BLACK JOURNALISTS handed out its 2017 NABJ Salute to Excellence Awards SATURDAY night (8/12) in NEW ORLEANS.
The radio winners included:

AMERICAN URBAN RADIO NETWORK correspondent (now with CNN) APRIL RYAN was honored with the 2017 NABJ Journalist of the Year Award"; MSNBC and NBC NEWS SVP YVETTE MILEY was given the CHUCK STONE Lifetime Achievement Award; longtime sports reporter and MOREHOUSE COLLEGE Journalism and Sports Program head RON THOMAS was honored with the Legacy Award; DETROIT FREE PRESS columnist ROCHELLE RILEY took home the IDA B. WELLS Award; and writer MICHAEL DAYS, TV producer Rev. AISHA KARIMAH, TV executive and photographer JOHN JENKINS, and MIAMI TIMES Publisher Emeritus GARTH C. REEVES, SR. were inducted into the NABJ Hall of Fame.
