THE BOSTON HERALD reports that fired talk jock JOHN DEPETRO isn’t going away quietly. DEPETRO sent a letter today to ENTERCOM WRKO-A/BOSTON begging for his job back and for a meeting with Market Mgr. JULIE KAHN.
DEPETRO and his board operator, JIMMY KIESLING, were fired last week after DEPETRO called Green Party gubernatorial candidate GRACE ROSS a "fat lesbian" on his morning show.
In a statement issued today, DEPETRO said he’s willing to undergo sensitivity training and will offer ROSS a weekly one-hour segment called "Amazing Grace." He also wants WRKO to rehire KIESLING. According to the statement, ROSS is pleased with DEPETRO's proposal.
The statement also points the finger at other WRKO-A personalities, saying ENTERCOM allows greater breadth of free speech to its other radio personalities. In the past, the statement said, ENTERCOM has dealt with on-air controversial remarks with suspensions and sensitivity training.
