Miami Marlins Spanish-Language Hall Of Fame Radio Voice Felo Ramirez Dies

Baseball Hall of Fame broadcaster RAFAEL "FELO" RAMIREZ, Spanish-language voice of the MIAMI MARLINS since the team's 1993 inception, died MONDAY (8/21) in MIAMI at 94, reports the MIAMI HERALD. RAMIREZ, most recently heard on on UNIVISION Spanish News-Talk WAQI-A (RADIO MAMBI)/MIAMI, had been hospitalized since a fall while getting off the team bus in PHILADELPHIA on APRIL 26th and never fully recovered.
RAMIREZ, the 2001 FORD C. FRICK Award winner from the Hall of Fame, had been calling baseball on the radio since 1945 at RADIO SALAS in HAVANA and called the CARIBBEAN WORLD SERIES for all but nine years since 1949. He called baseball for CMQ-A/HAVANA in 1953-61 and worked with the late BUCK CANEL on the Spanish-language version of the "GILLETTE CAVALCADE OF SPORTS"; he also announced over 32 WORLD SERIES and All-Star Games and five MARLINS no-hitters and was also known for his work on boxing broadcasts.
