Eclipsing" certainly was a "thing" at radio yesterday. Besides the station promotions we mentioned yesterday (NET NEWS, 8/21), here's what else went down:
iHEARTMEDIA Top 40 WWPW (POWER 96.1)/ATLANTA came up with a novel idea: Have a listener watch the eclipse in a slightly used Eclipse. "Slightly" is an understatement, considering they only had fins to buy a clunker. But they sweetened the deal by tossing in a pair of ED SHEERAN tickets, calling the stunt the 'PK in the Morning #EDClipse'.
They even painted ED's face on the hood, did a little station/show name tagging on the side and parked it downtown so people could enter by sending us their pictures with the hashtag #EDClipse.
Here's one of them :

For extra credit, here's a video of the morning show trying to buy the car on-air.

HUBBARD AC KRWM (WARM 106.9)/SEATTLE's ALLAN & ASHLEY Morning Show celebrated the great American Eclipse of 2017 with a cruise around downtown SEATTLE's Lake Union with listeners and friends of the show. Check out their special WARM 106.9 branded eclipse glasses!

iHEARTMEDIA Top 40 KXXM (96.1 NOW)/SAN ANTONIO, TX held an eclipse viewing party at the PARAMOUR ROOFTOP BAR, where 400 of its closest friends showed up to view the eclipse. "Even SAN ANTONIO Mayor RON NIRENBERG showed up to our party!" PD RUSSELL RUSH said, "He requested 'Bad Moon Rising' and even though that broke format, he’s the mayor and I have parking tickets that need taken care of!"

HUBBARD BROADCASTING Adult Hits WARH (106.5 THE ARCH)/ST. LOUIS outdid themselves with multiple attractions.
• One listener won a brand new ... umm, actually a gently used ... okay, a totally used 2007 MITSUBISHI ECLIPSE when SPENCER’S NEIGHBORHOOD broadcast live from WATERLOO in the path of totality!

• THE ARCH played an exclusive soundtrack for the entire eclipse including "Moon Dance," "Walking on Sunshine," "Sunglasses at Night" and more!
• The moment totality ended, THE ARCH played "Total Eclipse of the Heart" and gave away cash!
• THE ARCH gave away $1,500 to local winners when we played "Total Eclipse of the Heart" at 9a, 1p and 4p!
• THE ARCH was live all over the bi-state on social including from THE ARCH downtown!
