At a press conference in LOS ANGELES TUESDAY (8/29), SAG-AFTRA demanded an investigation into allegations by former station employees that SPANISH BROADCASTING SYSTEM fired them for joining the union and subjected them to harsh working conditions.
The LOS ANGELES DAILY NEWS reports that at the press conference, FELIX CASTILLO (a/k/a "MR. BORO"), formerly at Regional Mexican KLAX (LA RAZA 97.9) and Urban/Spanish KXOL (MEGA 96.3)/LOS ANGELES and ABRAHAM CHAVEZ, formerly at LA RAZA 97.9, spoke about being ordered to work double shifts. Eight former SBS employees allege that the company paid less than minimum wage and did not pay for overtime or meal breaks, and fired them and threatened to fire six others when they joined the union.
The union, which filed complaints with the National Labor Relations Board over the issues.
