RCA NASHVILLE's CHRIS YOUNG was invited to join the GRAND OLE OPRY last NIGHT (8/29) by OPRY member and friend, MCA NASHVILLE's VINCE GILL. The invitation came just prior to YOUNG's performance of the recent #1, "Sober SATURDAY Night," on which GILL duets; that chart-topper was celebrated prior to the start of last NIGHT's OPRY with a special backstage #1 party. YOUNG, who made his GRAND OLE OPRY debut over a decade ago in JUNE 2006, will be formally inducted as the OPRY's newest member on TUESDAY, OCTOBER 17th, just days before the release of his seventh studio album, "Losing Sleep."
GILL shocked YOUNG when, after joining him on stage for their duet, led with the revelation that he had never been paid for his work on the "Sober SATURDAY Night" session. "I'll make you a deal," said GILL to YOUNG. "I'll forgive the session fees if you'll be the newest member of the GRAND OLE OPRY." Responded YOUNG, "You're getting triple scale at this point! Dang, you got me good! I love you guys. I love everybody here. I love this place." See a video clip of the moment here. Check out YOUNG and GILL discussing the moment after the OPRY here.
"Since making his OPRY debut more than a decade ago, CHRIS YOUNG has won legions of fans around the world and has earned the honest respect of his industry peers," said OPRY GM SALLY WILLIAMS. "Both are evident every time CHRIS plays the OPRY, as our audiences light up, and his fellow artists watch from the wings. CHRIS has an incredible passion and love for the OPRY; he lauds its past and is excited about its future. He continues to make significant contributions to Country music and to his community, and we could not be more excited to officially welcome CHRIS to his musical home with his OPRY induction in OCTOBER."
