According to a report on a local sports blog, the SEATTLE TIMES has barred its sportswriters from appearing on iHEARTMEDIA Sports KJR-A/SEATTLE, saying that "we are not comfortable associating our brand with some of the off-color, sexist commentary on that station."
The statement was in response to a post at SEATTLE SPORTSNET by ALEX AKITA, a former TIMES writer, that said the paper was barring its sportswriters from radio and television appearances as of SEPTEMBER 5th, which the paper's statement said was true only for KJR.
AKITA is speculating that despite the statement, the paper's motivation is more likely TIMES Publisher FRANK BLETHEN's support for one of two competing arena projects and KJR hosts' opposition to that plan.
