CUMULUS MEDIA Top 40 KRBE/HOUSTON and boy band WHY DON'T WE partnered up to bring the “Care-A-Van” to help HURRICANE HARVEY survivors with volunteer services and donations to KIDS’ MEALS and the HOUSTON FOOD BANK on SUNDAY afternoon, SEPTEMBER 10th. The KRBE “Care-A-Van” also assisted in the cleaning and demolishing of homes impacted by the floods, donated supplies, and supported various local programs on its on-air and digital platforms.
“We thank the 104.1 KRBE Care-A-Van and WHY DON'T WE for their extraordinary compassion and commitment,” HOUSTON FOOD BANK Pres./CEO BRIAN GREENE said. “They rolled up their sleeves and got right to work alongside other HOUSTON FOOD BANK volunteers. It is due to the outpouring of help from friends like KRBE and WHY DON'T WE that HOUSTON FOOD BANK is able to meet the needs of those affected by HURRICANE HARVEY.”
The KRBE “Care-A-Van”, which included station volunteers and lucky fans who won via KRBE’s contests, spent the afternoon at KIDS’ MEALS making 1,041 lunches (including sandwiches or quesadillas, a healthy snack and drink) for pre-school aged children and their families who need help throughout the year, especially during this devastating time.
“KIDS’ MEALS is so thankful to partner with 104.1 KRBE to feed hungry pre-school children living in poverty,” KIDS’ MEALS Exec. Dir. BETH HARP said. “KRBE has supported our outreach efforts for more than 10 years, helping us provide 3.6 million nutritious meals to children who otherwise could go to bed hungry. Together, we are delivering hope!”
Before helping prepare lunches (which will be delivered immediately, WHY DON’T WE were interviewed by KRBE host TYLER FRYE, took photos, and did an impromptu performance. They also recorded a special song to send to THE ELLEN DEGENERES SHOW asking ELLEN to invite KIDS’ MEALS to her show.
“Our hearts go out to those who were affected by the devastation by HURRICANE HARVEY," band member DANIEL SEAVEY said. "It was an honor to be a part of relief efforts in the area with our friends at 104.1 KRBE.”
Band member JONAH MARIAH said, “Special thanks to the amazing team at THE HOUSTON FOOD BANK and KIDS’ MEALS for opening their doors to let us help. You are our heroes!”
“KRBE has a long history of serving the community and we're currently supporting the victims of HURRICANE HARVEY in many ways," CUMULUS MEDIA/HOUSTON VP/Market Manager ALEX CADELAGO stated. "Our team is forever grateful to Why Don't We for participating in the ‘KRBE Care-A-Van’ relief effort. Their willingness to help people in need says a lot about the character these young men have. KRBE thanks you … and H-TOWN thanks you!”
