The fate of MARIANA BROADCASTING Oldies WGHT-A (NORTH JERSEY 1500)/POMPTON LAKES, NJ remains unclear with a report in the BERGEN RECORD that owner JOHN SILLIMAN offered to donate the AM daytimer to the Borough of POMPTON LAKES. The station indicated in JULY that it planned to go off the air, but followed that by indicating that it may stay on the air after all.
A resolution by the Mayor and Council enabling the city to make an agreement about a station takeover was passed on WEDNESDAY (9/13), but Mayor MICHAEL SERRA told the RECORD that a deal is "months away" and SILLIMAN told the paper "there is no story yet... nothing has been done yet." SERRA said that one of the deal points would restrict the town from selling all or part of the station and its property for three years, although it would not require actual operation of the station during that time.
