Entrepreneur CHUCK BRENNAN's BADLANDS PAWN project has fallen apart in the wake of a SOUTH DAKOTA state decision revoking the lending license of his DOLLAR LOAN CENTER, and as a result BRENNAN is selling off all of the elements of the project, including Rock KBAD-F/SIOUX FALLS, SD, which has gone silent. BRENNAN's BADLANDS AIRTIME, LLC bought the station in 2015 from the UNIVERSITY OF SIOUX FALLS for $1.5 million for conversion to commercial status. The project also included a race track and outdoor amphitheater, a 70,000 square foot pawn shop with casino, gun store and range, tattoo parlor, deli, foundry, and other operations.
In a post on the station's website, BRENNAN writes that the company was "shocked by the reckless actions taken by the State’s Division of Banking" but must immediately stop lending, although "We remain confident, along with our entire legal team, in DLC’s compliance." In the meantime, he writes, "we expect that the costs and time constraints of litigation will be considerable. Without the financial support of DOLLAR LOAN CENTER, and with an unknown time line, we must make difficult business decisions."
The radio station is priced at a minimum bid $945,000 for the license, with bids accepted through NOVEMBER 1st; the radio station building is priced at $945,000, with content and furnishings "sold separately if desired."
BRENNAN's purchase of another station, '80s Oldies KZOY and K221FO (SUNNY 92.1)/SIOUX FALLS, SD, from JOHN SMALL's CUP O' DIRT, LLC for $1.5 million in 2015 never closed.
