Longtime Radio GM Chris Wheat Dies

Condolences to family and friends of former longtime radio GM CHRIS WHEAT, who died THURSDAY night at 66.
WHEAT was best known for his long tenure as GM at CLEAR CHANNEL/iHEARTMEDIA Classic Rock WFBQ (Q95)-Active Rock WRZX (X103, now Alternative WOLT)-Sports WNDE-A/INDIANAPOLIS, where he oversaw WFBQ's syndicated BOB AND TOM SHOW, and later, after a spell at ENTERCOM/NORFOLK, the CUMULUS cluster in INDIANAPOLIS (Country WFMS, Classic Hits WJJK, and News-Talk WWFT (now Classic Hip-Hop WRWM)); he also worked in the TAMPA and CINCINNATI markets. More recently, he was GM at SAGA COMMUNICATIONS' ASHEVILLE RADIO GROUP (Classic Rock WTMT (105.9 THE MOUNTAIN), Hot AC WOXL (MIX 96.5), Sports WISE-A-WYSE-A (ESPN ASHEVILLE), and Triple A WOXL-HD2-W251AO (98.1 THE RIVER)) in ASHEVILLE, NC before retiring to NAPLES, FL in 2015.
A memorial service will be held next MONDAY (10/23) at MADEIRA-SILVERWOOD PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH in CINCINNATI, with a private burial. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made in WHEAT's name to the OCULAR MELANOMA FOUNDATION, 1717 K Street NW, Suite 900, WASHINGTON, DC 20006.
