Singer/songwriter JOHN MAYER has established the RICHARD MAYER Scholarship Fund at FAIRFIELD County's Community Foundation in honor of his father, who turned 90 last week. The four-year scholarship will provide funds to a student pursuing the field of education.
MAYER was born in BRIDGEPORT and grew up in FAIRFIELD, CONNECTICUT. His father was an educational leader in the community and served as the Principal of Central High School in BRIDGEPORT for several years.
The RICHARD MAYER Scholarship Fund will be administered by FAIRFIELD County's Community Foundation and will provide college scholarships for BRIDGEPORT senior students attending public schools, who are planning to study education in preparation for becoming either a classroom teacher or educational administrator. The fund is designed to help deserving BRIDGEPORT public school graduates continue their education and go on to careers in education by providing a four-year college scholarship. JOHN MAYER’s Back To You Fund is administered by FAIRFIELD County's Community Foundation and has kept close ties in the community throughout the years.
FAIRFIELD County’s Community Foundation manages a large and exciting scholarship program for both graduating high school seniors and full-time students already enrolled in college, stewarding over 150 scholarship funds established by generous individuals, businesses, and nonprofit organizations that help students pursue their college education. These funds cover many different areas of study and many have their own distinct eligibility criteria.
"We are delighted to be able to help JOHN MAYER give such a special gift to his father. The legacy created by the RICHARD MAYER Scholarship Fund will help deserving BRIDGEPORT Public School students to reach for the stars and make their dreams come true," stated JUANITA JAMES, CEO and President, FAIRFIELD County’s Community Foundation. She continues, "It is always heartwarming to see one generation honor another."
