BRIGHAM YOUNG UNIVERSITY is making changes to its broadcasting department that will consolidate its TV and radio operations into single national networks for each medium.
For radio, the move means BYU BROADCASTING Classical KBYU-F (CLASSICAL 89)/PROVO-SALT LAKE CITY, UT and its five translators will be merged with BYUradio, the channel the school programs on SIRIUSXM RADIO, into a single radio network as BYUradio, with the satellite channel's mix of talk, public affairs, and Classical programming. BYUradio has been airing on KBYU's HD-2 channel. On the TV side, PBS affiliate KBYU-TV (ELEVEN)/PROVO-SALT LAKE CITY will merge with BYUtv, the nationally-distributed cable and satellite network that has been airing on one of KBYU-TV's digital subchannels. The move will drop PBS affiliation and allow BYUtv to air in high definition locally for the first time. The mergers will take place on JUNE 30, 2018.
"BYU BROADCASTING will continue to emphasize original, values-oriented, family content on BYUtv and BYUradio," said BYU BROADCASTiNG Managing Director MICHAEL DUNN. "This consolidation of services will allow our organization to focus, simplify and unify the future of our media portals. At the same time, we will also be able to offer the UTAH market comprehensive HD access to these major investments in content, including more than 500 hours annually of live HD collegiate sports programming."
