Years After Taking Over, Cumulus Files Deal To Buy Two Chicago Stations From Merlin Media

The formal transfer of Alternative WKQX and Classic Rock WLUP/CHICAGO from MERLIN MEDIA LICENSE, LLC to CUMULUS MEDIA's RADIO LICENSE HOLDINGS LLC has finally been filed with the FCC, finalizing a transaction that was implemented with an LMA under a Put and Call agreement in JANUARY 2014. The deal had CUMULUS paying the greater of $50 million or $70 million less LMA fees if it exercised the Call and $71 million less LMA fees if MERLIN exercised its Put.
In other filings with the FCC, COSTA-EAGLE RADIO VENTURES LIMITED PARTNERSHIP has applied for an STA to operate W237BF/MIDDLEBURY, VT with reduced power at an alternate site while it waits for its move to METHUEN, MA to rebroadcast Portuguese WCCM-A (NOSSA RÁDIO 1570)/METHUEN. The station has lost its site but cannot build yet at its new site, and plans to operate temporarily on a roof-mounted pole at the transmitter building of RADIO BROADCASTING SERVICES Hot AC WFAD-A (MIX 102.3, WIXM simulcast(/MIDDLEBURY, rebroadcasting its present primary station VERMONT PUBLIC RADIO News-Talk WRVT/RUTLAND, VT.
CALVARY EVANGELISTIC MISSION, INC. has filed for a Silent STA for WIVV-A/VIEQUES, PR due to destruction from Hurricane Maria.
JAMES MOSER's PALO PINTO COMMUNICATIONS, LP has closed on the sale of four stations in the ABILENE, TX market, News-Talk KROO-A and Country KLXK (K-LAKES)/BRECKENRIDGE, TX and Classic Hits KWKQ (Q94.7) and News-Talk KSWA-A/GRAHAM, TX, to MONTE and GENTRY TODD SPEARMAN's HIGH PLAINS RADIO NETWORK, LLC for $300,000.
And NORTHEAST GOSPEL BROADCASTING, INC.has closed on the sale of W247CB/PITTSFIELD, MA to ED PERRY's MARSHFIELD BROADCASTING CO., INC. for $50,000. The buyer plans to move the translator to WEST BRIDGEWATER, MA to rebroadcast WATD-A/BROCKTON, MA.
The FCC also issued a Notice of Unlicensed Operation to CESAR GERLENS for allegedly operating a pirate FM at 92.1 FM in BROCKTON, MA.
And the U.S. government has obtained a default judgment allowing it to seize all equipment used for a pirate FM station on 91.9 mHz at 91-16 43rd Avenue in QUEENS allegedly operated by LUIS ANGEL AYORA and AUSTRO PRODUCCIONES. The government made its claim by serving the complaint and providing public notice last DECEMBER 7th through JANUARY 5th, and received no claims to the equipment. A default was entered on MARCH 2nd and Judge FREDERIC BLOCK of U.S. District Court in the Eastern District of NEW YORK issued the default judgement YESTERDAY (10/23).
