MID-WEST FAMILY BROADCASTING has flipped Sports WOZN-F (THE ZONE)/MADISON, WI to Alternative as "THE RESISTANCE 106.7" with new call letters WRIS. Meanwhile, the Sports format remains on WOZN-A and translator W244DR. Sister Active Rock WJJO PD RANDY HAWKE adds PD duties of THE RESISTANCE.
The station kicked off its new format TODAY (10/31) with R.E.M.'s "It's The End Of The World As We Know It" and is running jockless for now.
While the station will be heard on 106.7, THE RESISTANCE is targeting more than radio. The station is pushing all the places THE RESISTANCE is on: THE AMAZON ECHO, smart phone apps and streaming. “People want to listen to stations through the device of their choice,” said HAWKE. “We don’t want to fight them on that; THE RESISTANCE will be everywhere you want it to be.”
THE RESISTANCE is utilizing software that allows listeners to give their opinion on every song on the station, as it plays live. HAWKE said, “We can look at an EKG-style meter in real time. It will tell us if MADISON likes what we are doing or not. It’s a big part of the station. When you join THE RESISTANCE, you get a say in every song we play.”
