AKRON PUBLIC SCHOOLS Triple A WAPS (THE SUMMIT)/AKRON is hosting the WONT' BACK DOWN; A TRIBUTE TO THE LIFE AND MUSIC OF TOM PETTY on NOVEMBER 4th at the EJ THOMAS HALL. The event will benefit THE SUMMIT’s MUSIC ALIVE and ROCK & RECOVERY programs.
The performance will feature an all-star house band and nearly 20 local guest singers, including BECKY BOYD, SHANNA DELANEY (of BY LIGHT WE LOOM), RAY FLANAGAN, JOHN PATRICK HALING (of JOHN PATRICK & THE OUTSIDE VOICES), ANGIE HAZE, RYAN HUMBERT, COREY KING (of the OHIO WEATHER BAND), BRENT KIRBY, JEFF KLEMM, BRIAN LISIK, CODY J. MARTIN, DAN MONEA (of HEY MONEA!), GRETCHEN PLEUSS, MARC LEE SHANNON (of the MICHAEL STANLEY BAND), TRACEY THOMAS, WHITE BUFFALO WOMAN and ZACH. An all-star finale will take place, with the vocalists trading verses on some of Petty’s biggest hits.
MUSIC ALIVE places refurbished musical instruments in the hands of underprivileged students in local schools, while ROCK & RECOVERY mobilizes and supports the recovery community to grow and heal together through the therapeutic power of music and messages of hope and inspiration.
