The UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI and broadcast rights holder LEARFIELD's MIZZOU SPORTS PROPERTIES have made it official and named sideline reporter and NBC affiliate KOMU-TV/COLUMBIA-JEFFERSON CITY Sports Director CHRIS GERVINO as color commentator for MIZZOU men's basketball for the rest of the season. GERVINO, the sideline reporter on TIGERS broadcasts since 1992 and men's basketball play-by-play voice on TV broadcasts in 2000-14, replaced longtime color commentator GARY LINK on an interim basis after LINK was fired on OCTOBER 19th, just before the first broadcast of the season, the MISSOURI-KANSAS charity game in KANSAS CITY on OCTOBER 22nd.
"We're thrilled to have CHRIS work alongside (play-by-play voice) MIKE (KELLY) to provide TIGER fans a great experience this season," said MIZZOU SPORTS PROPERTIES GM NICK GARNER. "CHRIS has been a valued member of the TIGER Network for the past 25 years, and we're pleased to have him moving into the role of color analyst on our men's basketball broadcasts."
"I'm excited and honored to be part of the TIGER broadcast team at the UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI, my alma mater, and grateful to LEARFIELD and MIZZOU for this opportunity," said GERVINO. "I also appreciate KOMU for allowing me to add this new responsibility, and look forward to working with MIKE (KELLY) for an exciting season of TIGER basketball."
