CRTC Grants Six New Alberta FM Licenses

NEWCAP, HARVARD BROADCASTING, and KING'S KIDS PROMOTION OUTREACH MINISTRY have received CRTC approval to launch a new FM station in FORT MCMURRAY, AB. NEWCAP will operate at 100.5 FM with 20 kw and a Classic Hits format. HARVARD, which owns a three-station REGINA cluster and holds a CP for a new station in CALGARY, will air an AC format at 103.7 FM with 20 kw.
KING'S KIDS, a non-profit that owns CKKK/PETERBOROUGH, will run a Contemporary Christian format at 91.1 FM with 35 watts. The actions denied competing applications from STANDARD, GOLDEN WEST, CLEAR SKY RADIO, VISTA RADIO, RADIO CJVR LTD., and TOUCH CANADA BROADCASTING.
In addition, O.K. RADIO GROUP was granted power increases for its CKYX (2,790 watts to 40 kw) and CJOK (10.7 to 40 kw) in FORT MCMURRAY.
Meanwhile, in GRAND PRAIRIE, AB, FM licenses were granted to BEAR CREEK BROADCASTING (Classic Rock/Classic Hits at 103.3 FM with 100 kw), VISTA RADIO LTD. (Classic Rock at 104.7 FM with 100 kw), and ALLAN HUNSPERGER (Gospel at 96.3 FM with 100 kw). The applications beat out competing bids from STANDARD, O.K., JIM PATTISON, SUN COUNTRY, CRUDE COMMUNICATIONS, NEWCAP, and 1097282 ALBERTA LTD.
