THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER (THR) has reported that CMT-TV's "NASHVILLE" will end following its upcoming sixth season. "NASHVILLE" originally aired on ABC-TV before being dropped after its fourth season; CMT-TV then picked up the scripted drama in partnership with online streaming content provider HULU last JUNE for the show's fifth season (NET NEWS 6/10/16). "NASHVILLE" was renewed for its sixth season in APRIL (NET NEWS 4/10), and the final season will begin airing on CMT-TV on THURSDAY, JANUARY 4th, 2018.
THR goes on to state that once "NASHVILLE" wraps its sixth season, CMT-TV will exit the scripted originals space that previously included the BILLY RAY CYRUS series "Still The King" and mini-series "Sun Records." No word yet on how the move away from scripted originals will effect CMT VP/Scripted Programming SHALEEN DESAI, who was brought on board in that role last OCTOBER (NET NEWS 10/14/16).
